2025 Community Leadership Program

2025 COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

The South-East Ottawa Youth Education Centre offers a summer internship program for youth in high school that aims to develop their capacity to contribute to the well-being and progress of their communities.

Youth will learn to facilitate a conversation among community members centred on the role everyone plays in building a vibrant community. They will organise community gatherings where families can discuss their hopes for the neighbourhood and organise projects to mobilise everyone to work together towards those aspirations.

Youth will also engage their peers in assisting them in this process. They will give particular attention to children and junior youth who can make a special contribution to the development of our community.

The position will allow youth to build capacities necessary for entrance into university and the workforce. Skills gained through the internship include:

  • Team-building: work with community members to solve local issues.

  • Interpersonal and communication: facilitate conversations with families and local institutions regarding community well-being.

  • Leadership: lead camps, festivals and community gatherings for children, junior youth and families.

  • Organisation: plan and organise camps for children and junior youth focused on developing capacities for language, mathematics, art, health, and social action.
